Peter Lambert pitched into the seventh inning and recorded his first High-A win to lead the JetHawks to a 5-3 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Wednesday night at The Hangar. The 20-year-old right-hander stuck out six and pitched into the seventh inning.

Lambert (1-3), who has received the lowest run support of any JetHawks starter, struck out six in 6.1 innings of work. It was the first time the 20-year-old from San Dimas has pitched more than six innings this season.
After a six pitch first inning (all strikes), Lambert struggled in the second and had to make 38 pitches. However, he only gave up a single run in the frame, as Modesto left the bases loaded. Lambert mostly cruised from there and at one point retired seven in a row with four strikeouts.

The JetHawks scored an unearned run in the first inning. Garrett Hampson led off with an infield single on a line drive that went off the right leg of Modesto starter Reggie McClain (4-2). Hampson would later come around to score. The Nuts right-hander went down, but was able to remain in the game and complete six innings.

Modesto tied the game in the second inning on Donnie Walton’s RBI single. The JetHawks re-took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth and never trailed from there. Yonathan Daza and Wes Rogers opened the home half of the frame with back-to-back doubles. Wilson Soriano later delivered an RBI single.

Lancaster added two more in the seventh inning. Daza led off with his second double of the game. He now leads the league with 11. He would later come around to score on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Mylz Jones. The second run came home after Wes Rogers stole third and scampered in on a throwing error by Modesto error Daniel Torres. The Nuts committed four errors in the contest.

Lambert started the seventh, recorded an out, and allowed a pair of hits before he was removed. Both inherited runners came in to score. He was charged with three runs on five hits.

Logan Cozart relieved Lambert in the seventh and remained on to toss a scoreless eighth. Huascar Brazoban pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fifth save in as many opportunities.
The three-game series concludes with the rubber game on Thursday night at The Hangar. Jesus Tinoco (0-0) will start for Lancaster against Nathan Bannister (2-1). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
