LAKE ELSINORE – The Lancaster JetHawks dropped their final road game of the regular season, 8-5, to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday evening at The Diamond.
Garrett Hampson went 2-for-3 and reached base four times in the loss. He led off the game with a single and promptly stole second base before eventually scoring on a Sam Hilliard ground ball to give the JetHawks (74-59, 36-27) a 1-0 lead.
Lake Elsinore (61-72, 26-37) answered with four two-out runs in the bottom of the second against starter Brandon Gold (4-2). Gold had retired the first five batters of the game before giving up five straight two out hits in the second inning.
Yonathan Daza brought the JetHawks within one run in the fifth inning with a two-run double, his first of two doubles in the game, but once again, the Storm had an answer. Austin Allen cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead, 6-3.
Emmanuel Ramirez (2-2) left the game after five innings for Lake Elsinore. He allowed three runs on six hits to pick up the win.
Roberto Ramos led off the sixth inning with a solo home run, his 13th of the season, against reliever Jake Smith. The home run snapped a season-long seven-game homerless drought.
Gold went six innings and allowed six runs on seven hits in his second California League loss.
The Storm scored two runs against reliever Max Schuh before the JetHawks answered with a final run in the ninth inning on a Daza RBI-grounder.
Dillon Thomas stole a team season-high four bases in the contest and Lancaster finished the game with six total to bring their season total to 298, the most in affiliated baseball.
Here’s the box score.
The JetHawks begin their final seven-game homestand of the season on Tuesday with the first game of a three-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Ty Culbreth (4-1) is scheduled to start against Adam Bray (7-3). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
