LANCASTER – The Storm scored the final five runs of Monday’s game to beat the JetHawks, 7-4, at The Hangar. Lake Elsinore took three of four in the series, and they lead the JetHawks by four games in the standings withs even regular season games left.
Lancaster (32-31, 66-65) started strong and jumped out to a two run lead. Ramon Marcelino hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. In the third, Jimmy Herron drove in a run with a triple. Austin Bernard added a solo home run in the fifth to give the JetHawks a 4-2 edge.
A pair of newcomers pitched well for the JetHawks. Kyle Olliges and Alejandro Mejia combined to pitch 6.1 innings, allowing four runs. It was the first Cal League action for both pitchers.
The Storm (34-28, 70-61) scored a run in the sixth and then three in the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Lake Elsinore recorded three consecutive run-scoring hits against Austin Moore (6-1) in the seventh.
Deivy Mendez (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning in relief to earn the win for Lake Elsinore. Mason Fox struck out four in 2.1 innings to pick up the save.
The JetHawks went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position, while the Storm went 6-for-12. Lake Elsinore has taken five of the last six meetings in the season series. They lead the JetHawks by four games with seven to play in the regular season.
The final homestand of the year wraps up with a three-game series against Inland Empire. Garrett Schilling (8-7) takes the mound in game one of the three-game set against Kyle Tyler (2-0). First pitch is 6:35 pm.
