July 18: Western Music Association Showcase at El Trocadero Steakhouse
Time: 6:30 p.m.

Musicians and cowboy poets perform stories and songs of the romantic Old West, contemporary music of the American West, and songs of the open range and the American cowboy. To perform your Western music or poetry with them during this event, email wmacc@westernmusiccalifornia.org.

July 19: ARTree – Figure Drawing at ARTree Community Arts Center
Time: 6:00 p.m.

Are you an artist frustrated with the lack of opportunities to draw in Santa Clarita? Come to ARTree Community Arts Center for a chance to really explore your creative potential using a live model. Just drop in and bring a pencil and paper.

Every 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of the month, with some additional dates throughout the year.

July 19: SENSES Block Party – Beach Party at Main Street in Old Town Newhall
Time: 7:00 p.m.

The wildly popular SENSES Block Party presented by Valencia Auto Center brings live music, food trucks, themed activities, and adult beverages to Main Street every 3rd Thursday from March to October. Snap a photo at the lounge, grab a drink from the on street bar (hosted by 8th and Rail, El Trocadero, or Newhall Refinery), dance the night away to high energy performers, and order a bite from the food trucks or local restaurants. Don’t miss this fun and festive adult setting right here in Santa Clarita.

July 19: Scenic Captures in Photography – Artist Reception at The MAIN
Time: 7:00 p.m.

The city of Santa Clarita invites you to attend an artist reception for the photography exhibit featuring Ryan Coursey and Ron Pinkerton at The MAIN. Guests will enjoy light snacks, music and a chance to meet the photographers.

“Don’t Listen to What They Say! Go See!” presents photographs from artist Ryan Coursey’s travels. Ryan is a travel and landscape photographer and videographer with over 10 years of Hollywood post-production experience. After working with some of Hollywood’s biggest names on TV, commercial, and animated projects, Ryan decided to form his own business out of Burbank called RYCO.LA, specializing in photography, videography and aerial drone company. A selection of Ryan’s colorful scenic captures will be featured in this exhibit.

“The Last Stand: Night Photography and Light Painting in the Mojave Desert,” by artist Ron Pinkerton features images created by using a technique known as light painting, which involves the use of moonlight and a hand-held flashlight or theater gels. Ron’s images explore the mythology and reality of the desert. Ron explains, “The mythology includes the idea that the desert is a blank canvas, a place of freedom, where one can pursue their dreams…that mythology is not without merit, but it is tempered by the reality of the desert. Life is hard, distances are far, and success is rare.”

July 20: The Comedy of Errors – Shakespeare at Newhall Family Theatre
Time: 7:00 p.m.

The Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare’s earliest plays – his shortest and one of his most farcical comedies, focusing a major part of its humor on slapstick and mistaken identity.

The play tells the story of two sets of identical twins, accidentally separated at birth. As adults, one twin arrives at a town that turns out to be the home of the other twin brother. A series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities leads to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, arrests, and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.

This year, free Shakespeare performances are performed at the newly renovated (and air-conditioned) Newhall Family Theatre for the Performing Arts. Elizabethan fun for the entire family.

July 20: Valencia Jazz & Blues Summer Concert Series at Downtown Valencia Town Center Drive, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency
Time: 7:00 p.m.

The sounds of live Jazz and Blues bands will once again fill Town Center Drive in Valencia. The Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series will return for the 19th year, once again featuring regional, national and international entertainers in a family friendly, quaint street party setting, offering activities for adults and children. In addition to the extraordinary sounds offered from some of the top Jazz and Blues recording artist in the world, the scheduled series will bring a variety of activities for the entire family as well as a variety of food and beverages, including wine and beer for the adults. No pets or outside food or beverages are allowed. Admission is free.

Harold is the proverbial poor little rich kid. His alienation has caused him to attempt suicide several times. His peculiar attachment to the sensitive, free-spirited Maude, whom he meets at a funeral (a mutual passion) is what saves him… and what captivates us. Based on the darkly comic and ultimately life-affirming classic (honored as one of the 100 Funniest Movies of All Time by the American Film Institute), the stage play of Harold and Maude is a nostalgic charmer that will captivate old fans and new audiences alike.”
