Artists of all skill levels are invited to attend the free New Heights: Social Media for Artists discussion on Wednesday, July 27 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Century Room at Santa Clarita City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.
The panel discussion will serve as a resource for artists who are interested in capitalizing on the popularity of social media to market artwork and communicate messaging. This unique workshop will provide attendees with valuable insight into the social media world as the panel of experts will provide artists with key terms, tools and concepts to consider. Effective use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other tools will be discussed.
The panel discussion will feature Jennifer Korsen, Vera Makianich and Kristina Wong.
Jennifer Korsen is one of the most visible and prolific artists in the Los Angeles area. Her work can be seen both in galleries and on the streets. Jennifer is known for her signature anatomically incorrect heart murals that can be seen around the city, as well as her paintings and mixed media work that have become a staple in the Los Angeles gallery scene. Jennifer has done projects for Red Bull and Whole Foods and was responsible for curating the painted electrical boxes on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. She built her career from the ground up through hard work, diligence and social media. She aims to inspire others through her non-traditional journey and make art something that is accessible to the masses in their everyday lives.
Vera Makianich is an artist from Buenos Aires and currently based in Los Angeles. Vera is currently the Assistant Director of L.A. Freewaves, a media arts non-profit organization dedicated to the creative exhibition of innovative and culturally relevant independent new media from around the world. In her position, Vera develops social media strategies for public engagement through the arts. She adopts unconventional and interdisciplinary media in various settings from galleries to public spaces.
Kristina Wong, actress, writer and performance artist, was recently featured on the New York Times’ “Off Color” series. Kristina has created five solo shows and one ensemble play that have toured throughout the United States and United Kingdom. She has been a commentator for PBS, Huffington Post and many other popular outlets. She has also been awarded grants for her work from Creative Capital, The Map Fund, Center for Cultural Innovation, the Durfee Foundation and National Performance Network.
