“Aloha Broha,” an exhibit of original art by Cyrus Howlett, will be on display at The MAIN in Newhall from Wednesday, July 5 through Friday, July 28.
Presented by Santa Clarita Arts, the “Aloha Broha” exhibit celebrates Howlett’s love for the iconography and silhouettes related to West Coast culture.
His signature cyan, magenta, yellow and key black (CMYK) color palette and his unique gestural, rhythmic pattern convey the energy associated with the street and beach culture along with its attitude.
Howlett has taken his art to a broader audience and made it more accessible by painting his pattern on various clothing pieces by big name brands and on personal garments owned by his followers to create unique wearable art.
“Growing up in the Central Valley, summer vacation meant trips to the beach,” Howlett said. “The skate culture I grew up with, my dreams about surf culture and my love for the ocean are what inspired me throughout my work. ‘Aloha Broha’ is a personal greeting of mine. I say it every day. It’s just that laid-back mentality; don’t stress, take a chill pill.”
The “Aloha Broha” exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The MAIN, 24266 Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
Santa Clarita residents are invited to attend a free art reception on Thursday, July 20 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Participants will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment and a chance to meet the artist.
