With 18 rebounds and 21 points, Jacquelyn Marshall’s double-double led The Master’s College women’s basketball team past Concordia University Tuesday night with a 91-83 victory at Bross Court.

Tuesday’s win not only raised the 7th-ranked Lady Mustangs’ 2013-14 record to 19-5 and 7-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play, but also slotted TMC neck and neck with Hope International for second place in the GSAC.

The opening 10 minutes pitted the Lady Mustangs in a dogfight against the Eagles until the 9:28 mark where Marshall drove in a layup that sparked a 10-0 run. With the score at 35-18 with 5:41 left in the first half, the Lady Mustangs managed to post 13 more points which gave the squad a 48-30 advantage at the break.

At the half, Shannon Kingery (West Hills, CA) led all scorers with 10 points while Marshall posted 8 more points and brought down 8 rebounds.  The Lady Mustangs posted a 48% (18-37) shooting percentage from the field and a spotless 100% (7-7) on free throws.

TMC’s dominance continued in the second half as the Lady Mustangs posted a 21-point lead 40 seconds into play.  And while the Lady Mustangs maintained a hearty advantage for the remainder of the evening, the Eagles closed the gap to 7 points with 2:50 left to play. But TMC diverted any Concordia comeback and brought the final score to 91-83.

Megan Lindsley (Vancouver, WA) followed Marshall by posting 15 points while Whitney Best (Snohomish, WA) chipped in 14 more.  Notably, Marshall also posted a game-high 5 assists.

“This win was huge for us,” commented head coach Dan Waldeck. “We were able to play well and produce a few key runs. I’m excited for Saturday and the rest of the season.”

Now, the Lady Mustangs will play the GSAC’s other Eagle squad – Biola University – on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in La Mirada.
