The highly-competitive San Francisco State Distance Carnival began Friday morning with the women’s 10,000m race. Representing the Lady Mustangs for the first time this season was junior Abigail Frankian. On her way back from a minor injury, Frankian ran a respectable 2017 debut, posting a mark of 37:35 and meeting the NAIA’s “B” standard for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Continuing her unprecedented streak of personal bests this season, Tess Thompson jumped 4.81m in the women’s long jump, improving on her previously held school record.
Competing in the third of 12 sections of the women’s 1500m, Morgan Pedrick met the NAIA’s “B” standard by posting a time of 4:39. This is the second national qualifying mark hit by Pedrick this year. Last weekend, Pedrick led TMU to a qualifying time in the women’s 4x800m.
Racing in a later heat of the women’s 1500m, Rylee Bishop ran a fantastic new lifetime best of 4:55. Close behind was teammate Ariana Sciarra who debuted in the event with a final time of 5:10.
Perhaps the highlight of the day was Rachael Ingoldsby’s performance in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase. Running a new lifetime best and dipping well below the NAIA’s National qualifying “A” standard, Ingoldsby ran an outstanding 11:10. “I’m so happy with how well Rachael ran today,” commented TMU head coach Zach Schroeder. “Our goal is to go under 11 minutes and set a new school record this season. Today’s effort showed that’s definitely within Rachael’s reach.”
Finishing a great day of TMU track & field, Mikala Fairchild posted a time of 18:08 in the women’s 5,000m run.
Saturday afternoon, the Lady Mustangs returned to the track with Tess Thompson and Emily Hess competing in the women’s 400m. Thompson, who was competing in her first collegiate 400m race, posted a solid 1:01.18 and marked the second-fastest time in the TMU record book. In a later heat, Hess crossed the line in 1:13.53.
Doubling back to compete in the women’s 800m after strong showings in the 1500m on Friday, Morgan Pedrick and Rylee Bishop posted marks of 2:21 and 2:22, respectively. Notably, this was Bishop’s second personal best achieved during the two-day meet.
Next Saturday, the Lady Mustangs will compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
