A Castaic man was charged with attempted murder and assault for allegedly trying to set his ex-girlfriend on fire in a domestic violence incident in Saugus on Friday, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials said.
Ryan Wesley, age 35, has been charged with attempted murder and assault, said Shirley Miller, SCV Sheriff’s Station public information officer.
Deputies were called to the 34000 block of Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus early Friday evening, she said.
“A caller reported they heard a woman screaming at a residence, and then saw an adult male leaving the scene,” Miller said.
“When deputies arrived there they made contact with a female victim in her 40s, and reportedly she and her ex-boyfriend were together at the residence when they got into an argument,” she said.
“The argument turned physical and the ex-boyfriend allegedly hit her on the head with a blunt object and poured an alcoholic beverage all over her, then took a bottle of some cleaning solution and doused her with that,” Miller said.
“Then he allegedly took a lighter and tried to set her on fire,” she said. “He was unsuccessful and took off in his car, so deputies put out a crime broadcast for the suspect. They were able to locate him in Castaic and arrested him on attempted murder and assault charges. They transported him and booked him at the station.”

There were two other domestic violence incidents in the SCV Friday and Saturday, Miller said.
One was in Newhall Friday morning.
“In the 21300 block of Ficus Drive, an argument turned physical,” Miller said. “The suspect was Nathan Craig, 40, who allegedly took away the victim’s cell phone by force. He was arrested for robbery for taking the phone and also for domestic battery.”
Another incident Saturday led to an arrest in Canyon Country.
“On Saturday afternoon, deputies responded to the 19100 block of Nadal Street regarding a family disturbance call,” Miller said.
“It was an argument that turned physical between a husband and wife,” she said. “The husband, who was the suspect, allegedly refused to let the victim who was holding an infant leave the apartment.
“Deputies arrived on the scene and arrested Adam Welch, age 27, on domestic battery, child endangerment and false imprisonment charges, and he was transported and booked at the station,” Miller said.
Detectives will be assigned to further investigate all three of the cases.
“Unfortunately, domestic violence affects people of all socio-economic backgrounds, all genders,” she said.
