An off-duty deputy detained a suspect at gunpoint after he allegedly fired shots at another driver during an apparent road rage incident in Green Valley on Thursday afternoon.
It started when two adult men were involved in a rolling “road rage” incident while they were driving on Spunky Canyon Road around 1:20 p.m.
Both men pulled over to the side of the road and exited their vehicles.
The victim watched the suspect retrieve a 9MM handgun from his truck and load it. The victim returned to his vehicle and drove away.
The suspect then allegedly fired an estimated two shots at the victim’s moving vehicle. None of the rounds struck the victim or his vehicle.
The suspect returned to his vehicle and drove south on Spunky Canyon Road.
The victim pulled over a short time later and called 911 to report the incident.
An off-duty deputy witnessed the road rage and shooting incidents. He attempted to report the incident to authorities using his cell phone, however, there was no reception in the area.
The deputy followed the suspect to a fire camp parking lot on San Francisquito Canyon Road in Saugus. He quickly identified himself as a deputy sheriff and detained the suspect at gunpoint.
The deputy asked employees of the Fire Camp to call 911 and have deputies respond.
Additional deputies responded and took suspect Rafael Baca, 54, into custody without further incident.
Baca was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at a moving vehicle and was booked at Palmdale Station.
There is no further information at this time.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station at (661) 272-2400.

It says it’s in Saugus and green valley. Those places are 20 minutes apart

Depends on which part of Saugus and the weather. But usually 20-30 minutes from copper hill
