The Santa Clarita Public Library, in partnership with the Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library, invites residents to meet author Marisa Silver, the talented writer behind this year’s One Story, One City book selection “Mary Coin”.
The free author event will take place on Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library. Space is limited and seating is on a first come, first served basis.
This event marks the first of many free discussions and programs offered through the month of March as part of the Library’s second annual “One Story, One City,” program.
“Mary Coin” is a fictional tale based on the iconic depression era “Migrant Mother” image taken by Dorothea Lange in 1936. Silver will spend the evening discussing her inspiration for “Mary Coin” and answering questions from the audience. A book signing will follow the discussion with books available for purchase on site.
A unique Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library ticketed reception with the author featuring wine/beer (generously donated by Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Co.), appetizers and desserts will be also be held prior to the free event at 5:30 p.m. Ticketed guests will get first-choice seating before the free event. Tickets are $20 for FOL members and $30 for non-members. Purchase tickets at any Santa Clarita library branch or online at SantaClaritaFOL.com. No tickets will be sold at the door.
The “One Story, One City” program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library and supported by Barnes & Noble. The program is an initiative to encourage city-wide discussions and promote reading across all ages through one story. The program promotes a sense of unity and community by way of literature.
