Sierra Vista Junior High School in Canyon Country is having its Golden Anniversary celebration March 23 at the school.
The celebration will go from 5-7:30 pm with food trucks, performances by school and professional groups, and a historical walk-through of the impact Sierra Vista has had in its 50 years on the Santa Clarita Valley. A recognition ceremony will begin at 6:30.
A few of the memories that will be shared on March 23 include the 1970 changing of the Dress Code that allowed girls to wear pants; Sierra Vista was in Saugus until 1975 when it was changed to Canyon Country; in 1976, a new form of transportation invaded school corridors – the skatenoard.
Current students will also present various exhibits, including a scientific look as a Plainsman (the school’s mascot).
Vicki Engbrecht, superintendent of the William S. Hart Union High School District, began her career with the district as a teacher at Sierra Vista in 1976.
Former students who have a favorite memory from their days at Sierra Vista are encouraged to submit message online at http://bit.ly/sv50thmemories, or on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #sv50years.
The school is located at 19425 West Stillmore Street. For more information on the celebration, call 661-252-3113, or visit sierravistajuniorhigh.org.
