The Santa Clarita Master Chorale, led by artistic director Allan Robert Petker, will present the second concert of the season, “Mozart: Requiem” on Sunday, March 15, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at COC.
The concert, featuring Mozart’s classic Requiem Mass in D, will begin at 4 p.m. with a free pre-concert lecture by Petker at 3 p.m.
The concert will also include the Santa Clarita Master Chorale’s opening work, “a Te Deum” by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák.
In addition, the concert will celebrate Jan Sanborn in her final performance as the Santa Clarita Master Chorale’s accompanist.
The orchestra, and Sanborn, will present the first movement of Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major.”
Sanborn recently retired from California State University, Northridge, where she was staff accompanist for 22 years, and worked most intensively with its choral groups. She is an accomplished composer and has accompanied choirs all over the world. Sanborn has also played organ and piano for many Southland churches, including Bel Air Presbyterian Church.
Tickets, available online and at the door, for “Mozart: Requiem” are $29/$22 /$16 for regular admission and $24/ $17/$11 for children, seniors and students.
The Santa Clarita Master Chorale was founded in 1998 by Jill Hackett and Deb Baur and offers three concerts each year.
The all-volunteer Chorale is an auditioned chorus which serves the Santa Clarita Valley through community benefit performances, as well as educational programs which include pre-concert lectures, high school and college student internships, master classes for elementary and high school students and the recent addition of the Santa Clarita Children’s Honor Choir.
The final concert of the 2014-15 season of the Santa Clarita Master Chorale will be held May 31.
“Defying Gravity” will feature special guest Stephen Schwartz, the award-winning Broadway composer of “Wicked,” “Godspell” and “Pippin.”
