NORTHRIDGE – The CSUN women’s tennis program travels to Long Beach State Friday for a Big West Conference dual. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
LBSU is 3-0, 1-0 in Big West duals after defeating UC Riverside (5-2) on Jan. 26 at home. Playing primarily out of the No. 1 singles slot, Wiktoria Rutkowska is tied for the lead on her team in victories with 12 (2-1 in dual play). The doubles tandem of Dominique Meyer and Rutkowska have the most victories as a duo for the 49ers as they are 8-1 (2-1 duals) this season.
The Matadors are coming off back-to-back straight-set victories last week as CSUN took care of Westmont and Marymount California 7-0, 6-0 respectively. Senior Skyla Alcon, who has emerged as a team leader for the Matadors, is 4-0 to begin singles play this season. Alcon as well as both freshmen Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso and Sibel Demirbaga are all undefeated in singles’ play thus far. Demirbaga didn’t drop a single game point to either Westmont or Marymount California.
Senior Monika Van de Vondel, who is bouncing back from injury, is ready for the hard task of winning on the road at LBSU. She is returning to the same court where she initially hurt herself earlier this season at the Long Beach State Winter Invitational (Jan 20). Rain is in the forecast, so there is a possibility of this match being postponed.
