Elizabeth Rydall is a mother, teacher, artist, blogger and breast cancer survivor. Her journey is a mélange of discoveries, disappointments, victories, revelations and relationships. Her upcoming art show, “22 Months,” will feature paintings, sculptures and photographs that dive into the realities and rawness of cancer as well as the potential to find beauty and joy in any circumstances. The free show is on Thursday, May 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Paseo Club, 27650 Dickason Drive in Valencia.
“Art and abundant friendships were the two constants through my 22-month odyssey,” says Rydall. “I want to share with others the amazing ways we can connect with others while navigating the unknown.”
Professional Photographer Jennifer Calderon chronicled Rydall’s experience from the beginning. Her photos, which are part of the art show, captured private and public moments from diagnosis to treatment to remission.
“Women are amazingly strong. At no time is this more evident than when they are facing a trial,” says Calderon. “Elizabeth was so open to letting me be a part of her highs and lows. I was honored to be a part of her journey.”
Rydall has lived and taught in the Santa Clarita Valley for 17 years. She teaches at Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi) Charter School. In addition to being a sought-after muralist and private art instructor, she has been an actress and model. In fact, she was named Miss North Dakota and Miss Minnesota in the 1980s.
Girls from RockNacappella, a local youth a cappella performance group, will provide entertainment during “22 Months.” A portion of the proceeds from the sale of any of the art will benefit Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter, meals and support services to local families without homes.
