Residents looking to make a positive difference in the community may apply to become an appointee on one of the Speaker of the State Assembly’s boards or commissions and weigh in on a multitude of issues.
Individuals can be appointed to the California Arts Council, California Transportation Commission and the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence Governing Board, among other prestigious leadership opportunities.

The workshop will feature panelists who will speak on the best practices for applying to state boards and commissions.
“I am pleased to host my first Speaker’s Appointment Workshop, in partnership with Speaker Anthony Rendon,” Smith said in a statement. “The workshop is an excellent opportunity for civic engagement and the chance to enrich the lives of all Californians.
