Starbucks regulars, online dating, addiction, Cupid and the advantages of depression are just a few of the subjects that will be brought to life at Solopalooza 2013, as more than 20 College of the Canyons theatre students perform original solo performances on May 29 and May 30.
“The COC theatre department is proud to once again offer audiences the opportunity to see the impressive level of talent on display during Solopalooza,” said Paul Wickline, COC theatre department chair. “The unique collection of pieces our students have written, and will now perform, draw upon many universal themes that all audiences can relate to.”
During the spring semester, students from the college’s Theatre 195: Solo Performance course worked with COC theatre instructor and Solopalooza director Susan Hinshaw to create a series of original performance pieces, that are both socially provocative and highly entertaining.
“These stories are great fun, poignant and thought provoking,” said Hinshaw. “Our students have worked very hard to bring their wonderful stories to the stage and they are performing them beautifully.”
Solopalooza performances will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the new Studio Theatre at the college’s Valencia campus. The Studio theatre is located next to the bookstore in the Student Center building (Room STCN-130).
Some performances contain mature language and adult subject matter. Admission is free and donations will be accepted.
