In celebration of the first year of Santa Clarita’s adoption of the Arts and Culture Master Plan, Mayor Cameron Smyth will proclaim Tuesday, April 11 as Arts Day 2017. Arts Day has been acknowledged in Los Angeles for several years, and this year the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors at their April 4 meeting, proclaimed April as Arts Month.
Santa Clarita joins the cities of Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Whittier and Long Beach as they also celebrate the arts, culture, and creative sector during this inaugural Arts Month in Los Angeles County.
The Arts contribute to our lives via a myriad of pathways. They improve the overall well being of our citizens and unify the community. They improve the academic performance of our students and develop creative thinking and communication skills they will need in the work place. They strengthen the economy and are good for local businesses. Together, arts organizations work towards the common goal of making the city of Santa Clarita a better place to live, work and play.
Please join SCV Alliance for the Arts in the City Council Chambers at 6p.m. on Tuesday, April 11 as we thank the City Council and staff for their support of the Arts in SCV. Let them see how much the Arts mean to our community; show up and be counted. At 6:00 p.m., Mayor Smyth will read a proclamation designating April 11, 2017 Arts Day in Santa Clarita.
Local artists, arts advocates and community members will speak to thank the council and emphasize the value of the arts to Santa Clarita. Your presence will show the council members we support and value their efforts. Please wear red to demonstrate your support of the Arts.
