The Master’s University senior Dylan Bielanski made it four consecutive matches with a point Thursday afternoon when his second-half goal added some insurance in a 2-0 victory over Marymount California University men’s soccer at TMU.

The victory was the Mustangs’ third of the season, all by shutout.

“Marymount is a talented team which has had a hard time finishing lately,” said TMU head coach Jim Rickard. “They had the better run of play early. I thought we came out pretty flat and bent but didn’t break early.”

Rickard’s summation of the Mariners’ early play was on display inside of the first 16 minutes when Marymount put three shots on goal.

They were all turned back by sophomore goalie Price Anderson, who finished with six saves and his third shutout of the season.

Anderson’s teammates had something to do with that, too, including Armando Torres.

On shutting out the Mariners, the junior defender said, “We played for God’s glory, and we played as a team. What more can we do than love the sport, love the game. We played as a unit, stayed composed and that’s what we did to shut them out.”

At the other end of the field, there would be no shutout.

Bielanski’s team-leading sixth goal of the season came 17:42 into the second half. He ran onto a pass from senior midfielder Luis Garcia Sosa and punched the ball in from 12 yards out.

That score was Bielanski’s fifth in the past four matches to go along with two assists in that span. He leads the club in scoring with 14 points on six goals and two assists.

Bielanski’s goal may have iced the victory but Brayden Campos‘ first-half score was the game-winner.

It was assisted by Cameron Molyneux, who launched a free kick from 35 yards out that carried into the penalty box where Campos headed it in at the 29:55 mark.

The victory over Marymount California capped a five-match homestand for the Mustangs, who went 3-1-1.

Now, they go on the road Saturday, up Highway 14 to Lancaster where they’ll take on the University of Antelope Valley, a club they’ve never lost to (3-0).

“Overall it’s nice to get the win against a quality opponent,” Rickard said. “But we still have a lot of work to do.”
