Are you a creative individual looking to reach new heights with either your artistic or business skills?
The city of Santa Clarita’s New Heights Artist Development Series offers free local workshops, panel discussions and lectures designed specifically with the creative individual in mind.
Topics include music, film, visual art and art groups. The events are open to participants of all skill levels and are led by leading experts from arts organizations in the fields of filmmaking, production and music. The series offers a unique opportunity for artists to come together, learn from the experienced and ask questions.
The New Heights series is part of the Santa Clarita Arts Master Plan which is driven by the Santa Clarita City Council and Santa Clarita Arts Commission to provide enriching artistic and cultural experiences throughout the Santa Clarita community. Each session is designed to inspire and empower budding creative talent.
The series offers sessions on the following topics:
Music – Booking agents, creating home studios, touring, getting heard and music supervision
Film – Distribution, marketing, sizzle reels and crowd funding
Visual Art – Social media marketing tips, art demonstrations, pricing and selling art and advice on how to deal with self-doubt
Art Groups – Marketing techniques, applying for grants, networking and utilizing volunteers to increase the success of your arts organization
New Heights Podcasts
New Heights Artist Development Series discussions are also available as free podcasts, allowing you to listen to recorded sessions at your own pace and wherever you like from your tablet or smart phone. The podcasts are available on the Santa Clarita arts website at SantaClaritaArts.com.
Be sure to listen to “Getting Booked at a Festival: The Do’s and Don’ts,” featuring seasoned festival developers Steve and Polly Hoganson, Ross Emery and Mike Fleming, and “No-Budget Films,” a two-part discussion providing tips, tools and techniques on how to efficiently create a film with limited resources.

Wednesday, August 9: Music Supervision: How to Get Your Music Noticed
Music supervisors are the architects that match music to a scene in a movie or film. As a musician, getting their attention can open up doors to opportunities. In this session, panelists Bambi Moe, Scot Peeples and Joanne Ledesma will discuss all aspects of music supervision and help you figure out how to get your music noticed.
Wednesday, September 20: Art Demonstrations Day: Watercolor and Mixed Media
Looking to incorporate new art forms into your work? Enjoy learning new ways to artistically express yourself? Learn tips and techniques from watercolor and mixed media artists at this New Heights workshop.
Wednesday, October 18: Should I Create Art? Should I Continue to Make Art?
You’re not alone if you have doubts about your artwork. All artists do from time to time. They wonder if they’re good enough and if their art actually fills a need in the world. At this New Heights session, panelists will discuss how to address self-doubt and help you figure out when to ignore it or use it as inspiration.
New Heights panel discussions are typically held in the evening at 7 p.m. No RSVP is required to attend.
