Santa Clarita Transit announced Wednesday the installation of a new ultraviolet sanitation system on all 119 buses in its fleet.
The new United Safety Active Air Purification system enhances rider and driver safety by not only purifying the air but also cleaning all surfaces on the vehicle.
United Safety Active Air Purification systems utilize safe levels of naturally occurring hydroperoxides to eliminate greater than 99 percent of germs, microbes, viruses and bacteria in the air and on surfaces. The system increases air quality, does not cause damage to interior surfaces and is effective against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The purification process is safe for all passengers and requires lower costs compared to more traditional disinfection methods.
“This UV system provides an extra layer of protection for Santa Clarita Transit bus riders,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “The impressive part is that this proved system provides continuous protection throughout the day using safe and proven technology that has been around for decades.”
Santa Clarita Transit operates local service throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, as well as commuter bus service to North Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Century City and Downtown Los Angeles. In addition, qualified residents and senior citizens can utilize Santa Clarita Transit’s Access Services and Dial-A-Ride options.
