1940 - NYC premiere of "The Marines Fly High" starring Lucille Ball, filmed in Placerita Canyon [story] Marines Fly High

laanimalcare_dacc_animalcontrolOfficers from the Department of Animal Care and Control will be conducting field licensing enforcement in the unincorporated areas of Valencia (zip code 91354), Saugus (zip code 91350 and 91390) and Canyon Country (zip code 91351 and 91387) beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Field enforcement efforts are designed to ensure that residents’ dogs and cats are in compliance with licensing requirements and the mandatory spay/neuter and microchip ordinance. California State law requires that all dogs over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies and be licensed.

In addition to dogs, the County of Los Angeles requires that all cats over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies and licensed. Beginning January 1, 2014, puppies may be vaccinated at three months old, but still are not required to be vaccinated until four months of age. Securing a dog or cat license is essential to assisting animal control agencies if a pet becomes lost.

Pet owners are advised to be in compliance with licensing and the mandatory spay/neuter and microchip ordinance if they reside in any unincorporated area of Los Angeles County (or contract city that has adopted the County’s ordinance). Residents not in compliance will be subject to license fees and delinquency charges, including a $40 field enforcement fee to offset the cost of the Department’s field services. In order to avoid penalties, be sure your pet is licensed.

You can secure a new animal license by printing the application online at www.animalcare.lacounty.gov, or by visiting your local Los Angeles County animal care center. Owners of pets whose license is not delinquent can simply renew theirs at our website: www.animalcare.lacounty.gov .

DACC offers low-cost vaccination/microchips clinics (microchips are now $15, which includes an AVID registration) and low-cost assistance (for individuals who qualify) for spay and neuter surgeries. Please visit our website or stop by your local Los Angeles County animal care center for more information about these services.

Papers, please. Your dog’s papers are not in order.

  2. Don’t knock or ring the doorbell…..my dog will go nuts…..

  3. Paul Mahone says:

Another way for the city to stick their hand in your pocket. I wonder how much of my money has gone towards euthanizing dogs.

  4. No really….what is this for? I have never heard of this. If I pay for my dogs renewal what else would be the issue? Sorry…clueless dog owner….

    • Melanie Lynn says:

No idea… I’m wondering the same thing. The last group that came around were not animal control officers. It was some outside party. They came to my door multiple times because I was not home when they came. I even called the number they left and they still came.

  5. Paul Mahone says:

If your license is current there is nothing to worry about. They knock on peoples doors (in my case they trespassed to do so) looking for unlicensed dogs.

  6. Melanie Lynn says:

Why would they knock on my door? If you check my address, my dogs have current licensees. I remember they did this a few months back. The person came like four times because I wasn’t home.

    • tammy a. says:

they aren’t checking to see if you’re current, they’re checking to see if you’re hiding animals that you haven’t registered.

  7. John Tosto says:

All hail the benevolent government. Keeping us safe from evil unlicensed animals. All praise the government.

  8. Hey why dont u check the people for there social security cards maybe we can weed out all the illegals :-)

    • Once again, everyone must put themselves in another’s shoes to truly understand who they are. Ignorance is not a way to put blame on others who aren’t directly affecting us.

If your dog isn’t licensed, just don’t have your animals home that day. I’m being sarcastic. Waste of time and money.

  14. The fine is incredibly excessive. When they tack on all the extraneous “fees” it is around $500 per violation. It’s insane.

  22. Mary Cain says:

Seems to me they’d be better off looking for illegal people then unlicensed animals. I could drive by Home Depot and down Newhall Ave and fill a bus.

  24. If rabies is not current or license they will come, but shouldn’t if they are

  26. (1) Animal control does this all the time in different parts of the county; now it’s the Santa Clarita Valley’s turn; (2) it says UNINCORPORATED areas, which means if you live in the City of Santa Clarita, it doesn’t affect you.

  31. Juan Aranda says:

Hahahhahahahaha our tax dollars hard at work….we cant have unlicensed animals….thank you government

  32. My dog is legal..besides, the fee’s help support the shelters.

  33. Silvie Faust says:

Please don’t knock on doors I don’t want stranger knocking when kids are home.

  34. Oh the people you illegally hire to upgrade your home? Lol

  35. According to this article. Only certain zip codes.

  36. They did this two years ago also. They caught ours without licenses. :( Was pretty expensive.

  37. Marissa Leon says:

    Steve, Kelliann, and Sheryl

  38. Shauna Seem says:

Its only expensive if you own an unaltered animal. They do this because it helps keep the overpopulation down. If you are a responsible animal owner you have nothing to fear. Go to your local shelter and witness for yourself the devastating numbers of animals put to sleep just because of people who don’t spay/neuter their animals and you will gladly spay/neuter your animals and pay the about $20 fee for an altered animal. People in this area generally have money, dont be cheap. Save a few lives.

  39. Wow. People getting all paranoid and political about pets even? Sad.

  40. Love this. They just checked ours a few months back and came when we weren’t home. Left a note saying we needed to provide proof of licenses for our “two” dogs. They count barks and sounds I guess.

  46. Chris Tian says:

I can’t find my dog’s birth certificate. Is that mean I have undocumented…dog?

Luckily 91355 is not on the list!

  47. How do they have permission to be on private roads? Even the Sheriff’s Dept. isn’t legally allowed on our road unless invited or they’re serving a warrant.

  48. Mary Cain says:

Martin my spelling is correct. Obviously others agree because 11 people liked my comment.

  51. Silvie Faust says:

Don’t worry my dog isn’t documented neither…did I mention his a chiwawa . nothing hateful about that.

  52. Silvie Faust says:

By the way I don’t hire anyone to upgrade my home. Simple can’t afford nor do I have gardner or house cleaner just can’t afford so and don’t trust people at all.

  53. Silvie Faust says:

Instead of worrying about dogs they should worry about the important things…
