1876 - California oil industry born as CSO No. 4 in Pico Canyon becomes state's first commercially productive oil well [story]
Pico No. 4

The Hart football team, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll, plays Santa Monica tonight at College of the Canyons.

The Hart-Santa Monica matchup is this week’s Power Valencia-SCVTV Game of the Week and will be televised on SCVTV (Time Warner Channel 20, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, SCVTV.com stream) tonight at 11 p.m., with a second showing immediately afterward.

Hart is looking to win its fourth game in a row after losing its season opener to Tesoro.

Santa Monica is getting its second dose of the Foothill League. The Vikings lost to Valencia, 41-13, last week.

In other games, Valencia is home for a game against Loyola. Valencia is ranked No. 4 in the Northern Division and has won two games in a row.

Loyola is undefeated at 5-0.

Listen to the game between Valencia and Loyola tonight on AM-1220 KHTS. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Canyon football team, ranked No. 6 in the Northern Division, plays Steele Canyon at Canyon High. Canyon lost its first game of the season to Quartz Hill two weeks ago. The Cowboys are coming off a bye and should be well-rested.

Steele Canyon, from the San Diego Section, is only 1-3, but the team reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs last year.

Golden Valley is on the road and plays Simi Valley.

Trinity plays Liberty Christian at Murdy Field in Huntington Beach.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team plays Southlands Christian at Canyon High on Saturday.

In girls volleyball, Valencia won its Foothill League opener against Saugus in three games.

Saugus is the reigning league champ. Valencia’s Delaney Knudsen led her team with  14 kills and 20 digs. Sierra Sanchez had 13 kills and 19 digs for Valencia.

The Hart girls beat West Ranch in five games. Amy King led Hart with 15 kills.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls swept Lancaster Baptist in three games.

In high school tennis, the Hart girls beat Valencia, 10-8.

The Saugus girls beat Canyon, 15-3.

In high school golf, the Valencia girls beat Granada Hills by four strokes in a match at Hansen Dam. Eunice Song shot a 5-over 41 to pace Valencia.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Padres, 8-4, to stay alive in the playoff picture. The Dodgers head home to start a weekend series with the Colorado Rockies tonight. They are three games out of a wild-card spot with six games to play.
