Nov. 15: New Heights | Should I Create Art? at The MAIN

The City of Santa Clarita invites you to a free panel discussion for visual artists on how to overcome creative block.

For a creative professional, a creative block isn’t just frustrating; it’s potentially career-damaging. When you rely on your creativity to pay the bills and build your reputation, you can’t afford to be short of ideas or the energy to put them into action.

But all creative blocks are not created equally. Different types of blocks require different solutions — something that’s easily forgotten when you’re feeling stuck. Our New Heights panel will discuss the most common types and provide tips and tricks they employ to unblock them.

Nov. 16: ARTree – Figure Drawing at ARTree Community Arts Center

Are you an artist frustrated with the lack of opportunities to draw in Santa Clarita? Come to ARTree Community Arts Center for a chance to really explore your creative potential, using a live model. Just drop in and bring a pencil and paper.

Every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Thursdays of the month.

Nov 16: Sign Language – Artist Reception at The MAIN
Nov. 16 at 7:00 pm

You are invited to attend a free art reception for the latest exhibit at The MAIN, “Sign Language.” Enjoy light appetizers, entertainment, and a chance to meet the artist.

In this exhibit by artist Alex Cerda, audiences are invited visually explore the relationship between universal signs and sign language. Pieces in the exhibit fuse fine art techniques with contemporary compositions and urban materials such as reclaimed road signs.

“Our hands say a lot about our personalities and that’s why they are the focal point to my storytelling in this series,” says artist Alex Cerda. Alex uses messages seen on common road signs as inspiration to showcase how the same words can be interpreted differently through hand signs and sign language. An artist from Whittier, California, Alex considers himself a visual poet and storyteller and his paintings are a snapshot of a moment within a greater storyline.

Nov. 17: Kill Me, Deadly at Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons
Nov. 17 at 8:00 pm

Charlie Nickels has a hard life as a gumshoe in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, and things are only made harder by the murder of a client and the theft of her 300-karat diamond. With the help of his wise-cracking secretary, Ida, Charlie seeks out the many suspects: smarmy bookworm Clive, equestrian beauty Veronica, snooty butler Wilson, sensitive muscle Louie, and mob boss Bugsy Siegel. At the center of the case is femme fatale Mona, a nightclub singer who captures Charlie’s affections – and suspicions.

Nov. 17: The Society – A Night of Improv at The MAIN
Nov. 17 at 08:00 pm

Improvised music, comedy, scenes, the works. If you’ve seen “Whose Line Is It Anyway” you have an idea of what kind of hilarious, energetic comedy that team improv can be. If you come to our show, you will laugh. If you don’t, there’s no one who can help you. The Society are 12 time iO West Cage Match Champions.

Nov. 18: 26th Annual Fine Craft Show at Old Orchard Park
Nov. 18 at 10:00 a.m.

Want unique gifts and a shopping experience unlike any other? Mark your calendar for the City of Santa Clarita’s 26th annual two-day Fine Craft Show. The FREE, outdoor event features more than fifty artists’ booths with high-quality, original and Made-in-USA crafts for any budge just in time for the holiday seasont.

Spend the autumn day browsing hand-crafted jewelry, paintings, pottery, woodwork, ceramics and so much more. Scrumptious food trucks and live music will be enjoyed by all who join this holiday shopping tradition.

Nov. 18: Light Up Main Street at Old Town Newhall Library
Nov. 18 at 06:00 p.m.

An hour of festive holiday performances will begin at 6:00pm on the stage in front of the Old Town Newhall Library before the lights on turned on at 7:00 p.m.

Enjoy food trucks (both sweet and savory), photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, entertainment and more.

Free public parking for the Light Up Main Street celebration will be available at the Old Town Newhall Library, the Metrolink Station and at several public lots on and around Main Street. A free shuttle will be made available to patrons from Newhall Community Center to the event from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
