The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, in partnership with Ralphs/Food 4 Less, will host the 13th annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Dodger Stadium Thursday, November 16 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Dodger manager Dave Roberts, outfielder Joc Pederson and alumni Ron Cey, Mickey Hatcher and Dennis Powell will be on hand to help distribute a complimentary turkey, fixings and reusable canvas bags to 1,200 pre-selected families and not-for-profit community organizations who will in turn distribute them to Los Angeles-area families in need.
“This program provides us with a unique opportunity to interact with our fans beyond the stadium,” said Naomi Rodriguez, Dodger vice president of External Affairs and Community Relations. “We’re able to kick-off the giving season by providing those who need it most with a Thanksgiving meal as we continue to give back and thank our community.”
The Dodgers have partnered with the offices of Mayor Eric Garcetti, Senator Kevin de León, Councilmember Gil Cedillo, Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, Congressman Jimmy Gomez and Supervisor Hilda Solis for the turkey giveaway, with each office selecting organizations in its district to benefit.
Turkeys and fixings are also being provided to pre-selected students in the Dodgers’ “Community of Schools,” a strategic community partnership to improve the education and wellness of children attending local schools (all Title I) and living in communities surrounding Dodger Stadium.
Beneficiaries of tomorrow’s program also include families of LADF’s youth baseball and softball program, Dodgers RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) and nonprofit organizations they currently support.
Volunteers from the Dodgers, local neighborhood organizations and Ralphs/Food 4 Less will be on hand to distribute Thanksgiving goods at Dodger Stadium in Lot P, located inside the Sunset Gate at the Top of the Park, starting at 2 p.m. Levy Restaurants will provide all turkey dinner recipients with complimentary Dodger dogs.
