The SCV Gawad Kalinga is once again inviting you to join our 4th annual charity bike ride, the 2015 Grand Pondo sa Gawad Kalinga (GK Grand Pondo) to be held Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Pavilion. This event is being chaired by our friends from Rebel Cycling of Santa Clarita.
This event that we started back in November 2012 have raised over $19000 dollars in its 3 years of existence with the help of our loyal sponsors, volunteers and over 200 cyclists every year. In 2013 marked the ground breaking of our 4th GK Village in Abucay, Bataan, Philippines. In January 2015, we completed the construction of 11 houses in our GK Village that is now the home of 11 families from Abucay who were living in a cemetery under very unsanitary conditions. We continue to build homes in hopes of relocating all these families to their new homes.
The Santa Clarita Valley GK continues to hold local fund raisers in an effort to build shelters for our less fortunate families in the Philippines. To date, the SCVGK has built 4 Villages in the Philippines. Each village has a minimum of 30 homes and each home costs around $2,500.
This bike ride is one of the many ways you can take part in this exciting movement. We invite you to become a sponsor of this event. Your generous support will surely play a vital part in assuring the success of our mission. Also, donations in any amount are most welcome and greatly appreciated.
Gawad Kalinga (translated to give care) is a Christian based organization whose main mission is to end poverty to poor families around the world. GK has sheltered thousands of families and have restored so many human dignities since its humble beginning in 1995 but we still have so much more to accomplish before we reach our ultimate mission.
We profoundly thank you for your kind assistance and for any contributions you make. GK USA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
