Members of the Valencia High School Choir will perform with Mandy Gonzalez and guest Javier Munoz, both current stars of the award-winning Broadway musical “Hamilton,” on Saturday, October 26 at CSUN’s Soraya Performing Arts Center in Northridge and on Sunday, October 27 at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in Orange County.

VHS will join the stars onstage for three songs in this musical celebration today’s great composers, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stephen Schwarts and other extraordinary songwriters.

“The students are thrilled and excited to perform and support Mandy Gonzalez’s mission of living ‘Fearless,’” said VHS Choir director Christine Tavares Mocha.

“Mandy’s fearless campaign encourages students to follow their dreams without fear and to have courage to pursue the things that inspire them personally and professionally,” Mocha said. “We are honored to support this cause and thrilled to be performing on stage with her.”

Gonzalez, a native of the Santa Clarita Valley, rose to Broadway stardom after originating the role of Nina Rosario in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights.” In 2016, she took over the role of Angelica Shuyler in the Broadway sensation “Hamilton.” She’s also performed in “Wicked,” “Aida,” and in symphonies around the world.

Javier Munoz, guest star for the evening, currently stars in the title role of “Hamilton.”

Two Valencia Choir members will also get to perform cameo solos backing up Gonzalez and Munoz on the song “Satisfied.”

“I’m excited to see Mandy Gonzalez again and perform with her,” said Olivia Myers, one of the student soloists. “When Mandy talks about being fearless, it’s encouraged me to not always be in my comfort zone and to branch out and strive to do the things that you love.”

Jalen Pipkens, another member of the VHS Choir, agrees. “I’m so excited to finally meet Mandy so I can talk with her about Broadway and pursuing my dreams.”

The Valencia High School Choir is an award-winning vocal music program that operates with the motto to inspire, uplift, and cultivate community. No student is turned away because of financial need.

The program and the students in it are strongly supported by fundraisers, including a mattress sale at the school this Saturday, October 26thas well as a holiday boutique on Friday, December 13thand Saturday, December 14th
