The City of Santa Clarita in partnership with College of the Canyons, the L.A. Department of Public Health and American Medical Response will host a flu immunization Point of Dispensing event to help community members be prepared for the upcoming flu season.
The free walk-through POD will be on Friday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the College of the Canyons, East Physical Education Gym located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, while vaccine supplies last. Residents six months of age and older, including healthy adults, are recommended to receive the vaccination.
This event is more than just a way to help Santa Clarita residents combat the flu season. The October 30th clinic also serves as a test to the Cities Readiness Initiative response during a bioterrorism attack. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Cities Readiness Initiative is a federally funded program designed to enhance preparedness in the nation’s largest areas to quickly treat an impacted, mass population with medications during an emergency situation. The first exercise in Santa Clarita was conducted in 2006, this year marks the 9th POD event.
Instructors, staff and nursing and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students from the College of the Canyons will be onsite to assist with the event. Nurses from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and staff from the American Medical Response (AMR) will be readily available to provide their knowledge and expertise. Numerous City of Santa Clarita staff, the City’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers, and the City of Santa Clarita’s Emergency Communication Team volunteers will also participate.
Parking for this event will be available adjacent to the East Physical Education building in lots 5 and 6. For individuals with mobility challenges, special accommodations will be available, such as a drive-through area for vaccinations. Anyone seeking flu immunization at the College of the Canyons are reminded to leave their pets at home (with the exception of guide dogs) as they are not allowed on the campus.

This is such a great service however it doesn’t help those persons working or kids in school as they will have to miss their responsibilities in order to make the 10a-2p times set for the function. Will there be another clinic on a weekend or in the evening perhaps?

Diabolical plot to eliminate the surplus population?
The state has been granted permission to give children under 3 and pregnant women the flu vaccine containing mercury due to a shortage . They took it out for a reason Make sure you ask!
