[KHTS] – Karena Thek, the owner of Pilates Teck in Newhall and host of “Alive and Well”on KHTS AM-1220, came out with her third book in May, relating pilates to other common activities and health problems.
Her first two books dealt with how Pilates can help patients who suffer from osteoporosis and scoliosis. This new ebook targets golfers and how Pilates can help them improve their game.
“The Pilates Golf Athlete” focuses on the five principles of Pilates: balance, precision, core conditioning, integration and relaxation, all of which relate directly to golf, Thek said.
“I can’t tell you how many people can’t stand on one foot, and they’re trying to balance while they’re swinging a golf club,” she said. “It’s just not going to work.”
Thek is a golfer herself, but with a long history of back pain she must keep all her muscles in good working order to be able to play, she said.
Her own experience, as well as “watching (golf partners) struggle with trying to create a movement that they just weren’t physically fit enough to perform,” inspired Thek to write the book.
Each chapter focuses on one of the five Pilates principles, accompanied by helpful links and embedded training videos, so that readers can follow along with the exercises.
The book has already received a good response, Lineback said, and she hopes to expand to other sports in the future.
She has already been asked to write a book about Pilates for scuba divers.
Pilates applies to any sport that requires players to be hyper-mobile in one area of the body and not as mobile in other areas, Thek said.
The ebook is available for $9.99 on the iTunes Bookstore but not yet on Kindle.
