Capt. Carrie Stuart of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is in critical but stable condition, and will head back into surgery Monday afternoon, according to officials from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital officials.

On Friday evening, Stuart was involved in a serious head-on traffic collision with another vehicle in an unincorporated area in the Santa Clarita Valley.

As a result of the 9:30 p.m. collision at San Francisquito Canyon Road, north of Stator Lane, Stuart and the driver of the other vehicle, Ofosu Ofori, 38, of Lake Elizabeth, were hospitalized. Stuart is listed in critical condition, and Ofori received moderate injuries.

“Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor with both parties,” said Sgt. Pack of the California Highway Patrol.

Ofori has asked hospital officials not to release any information regarding his condition, according to a Henry Mayo spokeswoman.

“For unknown reasons, (Stuart’s vehicle) traveled into the northbound lane of San Francisquito Canyon Road directly in front of the approaching vehicle,” according to a CHP report. The front right side of her vehicle caused “major collision damage” to both cars.

The other car was driven by a 38-year-old man.

The traffic investigation is being handled by California Highway Patrol officers.

Stuart is a 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and serves as the unit commander of the Pitchess Detention Center, South Facility in the Santa Clarita Valley. She is 47 years old and lives in Los Angeles County with her four children.  She previously worked at the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Station.
