Valencia and Saugus are in the quarterfinals of the Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs.

West Ranch and Hart lost in the second round.

Valencia beat Burbank, 8-3, in the second round of the summer league baseball playoffs.

Saugus won a tight one, 2-1, over Moorpark.

Hart was shut out by Loyola, 7-0. Loyola also shut out Canyon, 2-0, in the first round of the playoffs.

West Ranch lost to top-seeded Valley North in a game that was decided by total bases. The two teams tied, 5-5, after seven innings. The game was called because of darkness and the winner was determined by the team with the most total bases.

Valley North won, 13-12.

Valencia faces Woodland Hills today. Saugus plays second-seeded Harvard-Westlake.

The championship game of the Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs is Monday at Birmingham High School.

The Master’s College is making some changes to its women’s athletics. The college is dropping women’s tennis and adding indoor track and field, according to a report in The Signal.

The women’s tennis program began in 2004 at The Master’s College. The team was 4-15 overall and 4-12 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The women’s indoor track and field team will begin competition in the winter and will include athletes from the cross country and track and field teams.

The Dodgers traded for Hanley Ramirez, a power-hitting infielder from the Miami Marlins, in a deal for starter Nathan Eovaldi.

Ramirez can play shortstop and third base. He has good power numbers with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs, but he is only hitting .246.

On the field, the Dodgers lost to the Cardinals, 8-2, and saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.

The Cardinals scored six runs in the sixth inning off Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. He gave up all eight runs on seven hits and three walks.

The Dodgers and Cardinals are at it again tonight in St. Louis. Aaron Harang gets the start for the Dodgers. Kyle Lohse is set to start for the Cardinals.
