The Santa Clarita Public Library is bringing story-time home to families and children: residents can now listen to stories by dialing the library’s main phone line at (661) 259-0750 and dialing extension 4. Families calling in can listen to pre-recorded stories read by favorite, local children librarians, a branch manager and even a bilingual storyteller.

The books featured on the Dial-A-Story line are specially selected by Santa Clarita Public Library staff to ensure a wide variety of stories are available for children of all ages; from babies and toddlers, to those in elementary school.
The idea sprouted from the library’s popular Storytimes programs which are offered at the library’s branches in Canyon Country, Valencia and Newhall.

“Dial-A-Story is a creative way that our librarians are able to extend the storytime experience to the home. We hope that families will enjoy listening to all of the librarians from the Santa Clarita Public Library and look forward to their future recordings,” said City Librarian Kelly Behle.

The Dial-A-Story recordings will be updated quarterly, so residents will have something new to dial into every season.

“It is not only fun to hear and listen to their favorite library storytellers read their favorite children’s books, but we also would like to encourage and foster the children’s lifelong love of books and reading through innovative and engaging ways. One way to do that is by making the books and stories come alive through creative storytelling, such as storytelling over the phone,” says Canyon Country Library Branch Manager, Maria Manigbas.

The Dial-A-Story program is a pilot program by the Santa Clarita Public Library. As the program expands, the library hopes to include more stories and storytellers.

For more information about the Dial-A-Story program, please contact Santa Clarita Public Library Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator, Stacy Schlesinger at (661) 799-6136.
