The city of Santa Clarita was named America’s 20th best city to live in by the recently released 24/7 Wall St.’s “America’s 50 Best Cities to Live.”

Considering 550 cities that the U.S. Census Bureau reported as having more than 65,000 residents in 2014, the 24/7 Wall St. report placed Santa Clarita as the only California city to rank in the top 20.

24/7 Wall St. ranked the cities according to several variables, including crime rates, employment growth, access to attractions, educational attainment and housing affordability.homepriceshomesales

“This ranking is a reflection of what we are committed to providing for our residents,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “We are continually looking for new ways to counteract crime trends, attract new businesses and provide a wonderful quality of life for our community.”

Santa Clarita is the third most populous city in Los Angeles County and was recently rated by SafeWise Report’s “50 Safest Cities in California 2015” as one of the top 10 safest cities in California, according to the FBI Crime Report for cities with a population of more than 10,000.

24/7 Wall St. notes that Santa Clarita’s job market has grown faster (5.2% according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics) than the national average (1.8%). In September 2015, the jobless rate in Santa Clarita dropped to 5.6%.

The city also continues to attract top retailers, another factor in the high ranking. With its proximity to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and frequently visited restaurants, bars, libraries, theatres, recreational sports centers, hotels and parks, Santa Clarita is the ideal place for residents to enjoy high-end shopping and leisure.

Santa Clarita is also a 2015 finalist for the “Most Business Friendly City” award by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.

  2. Sheeessh ,really moved down the list…Even with things that go on i still feel safer living here than the valley, LA or AV lol

  7. We were 2nd in the late 90’s I thought…. Still beautiful!

  8. Hummm, we moved here with 3 kids under 5 in 1966. Saved for a down pmt, used our GI Bill and made payments of 117$s on a 23,500$ house with 3,000 down. The payment was hard, on one income of 175$ a wk.Mother’s Day I got a 12.00 tree to shade the kitchen.still in that house, and the tree is 40ft tall.I think it’s the best city of its size to live and be retired in. We had to deal with rattle snakes, black widows and high winds, and it was a struggle then as it is now to make end s ,meet but it’s worth .

    • Luv your story ? my parents moved us here, from Monrovia, in the mid 70’s, now I am fortunate enough to be raising my young family in Santa Clarita. My boys are attending the same schools I did. A lot has changed in this city BUT it will ALWAYS be home to my family…hopefully for generations to come. ?

    • Your blessed that your folks took the chance to risk moving to a new young area. We took the chance because my dad said he was sending lots of building materials out here and we should go check it out. We were sure it was desert and were we surprised at all the building going on. It changed our lives and our children’s future. There was only one stop light between princess homes and K Mart. ?

  9. Bummer it’s not 3rd anymore.. Still love SCV
