1988 - Saugus Speedway owners demolish historic Bonelli Ranch House [story]
Bonelli House

Carousel Ranch, recognized for its horseback therapy programs for mentally and physically disabled children and adults, will get an early visit this holiday season from Santa Claus, who, accompanied by Mrs. Claus and a herd of reindeer, will spread holiday cheer at the Saugus ranch on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual “Santa Day” event, sponsored for the past five years by Pardee Homes, also features a “sweet shop” filled with fresh baked goods produced by Brandon Gelfand, a 12-year-old local entrepreneur.

Organizers expect more than 100 disabled kids and adults and their families to attend.

“It’s such a nice community event,” said Denise Tomey, Carousel Ranch executive director. “We’re looking forward to a great day.”

Tomey will join Santa and his entourage for the event, as will Ralph Pistone, Pardee Homes vice president. Local dignitaries and elected officials are also expected to attend.

Carousel Ranch and Pardee, both severely impacted by a down economy, will nonetheless continue this annual holiday tradition. Like other nonprofit organizations that have seen donations drop by nearly half in recent years, the ranch has managed to keep serving nearly 100 children a year. Pardee Homes, which like other homebuilders has seen dramatic drops in sales, and its employees continue to support annual holiday giving programs such as this.

Find Carousel Ranch at 34289 Rocking Horse Road (north on Sierra Highway, left on Mint Canyon), Santa Clarita 91390-3482, and get more info about the ranch and its therapeutic programs at www.carouselranch.org.
