The California Alliance for Jazz recently honored the College of the Canyons Studio Jazz Ensemble as 2015 State Champions, and for the second year in a row. On Friday night at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, COC’s big band and student Jazz Lab bands will flash back to the ‘40s.
The special program features “Music of World War II,” including swing classics like “Little Brown Jug,” “Moonlight Serenade” and “In the Mood”. Guest vocalist Katherine Lench-Meyering will sing special renditions of wartime chestnuts including “A Tisket-a Tasket,” “At Last,” “I’ll Be Seeing You” and more.
Showtime at the PAC is 7:30 Friday, and admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for COC students and senior citizens. Call the PAC box office at (661) 362-5304 for tickets and more info.

On Saturday night, you can rock out and help a good cause – The Vu Ultra Lounge on 8th Street in Newhall is staging a fundraiser for the Castaic Animal Shelter. Check out the live music, raffle prizes, a silent auction and lots more.
Vu visitors raised more than $1,000 for the animal shelter during the last fundraiser and they’re out to top that this year. Suggested donation at the door is $10, either in cash, gift card or pet supplies. Showtime’s from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Call (661) 255-7833 for more info.
