Green Convergence, Santa Clarita Valley’s only SunPower Elite Dealer, announced a partnership Thursday with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. With a purchase of a SunPower high efficiency solar system, Santa Clarita Valley veterans will benefit through Habitat’s “SCV Habitat for Heroes” program.

When a solar system is purchased through Green Convergence in Santa Clarita, a contribution of up to $2,000 will be made to benefit SCV Habitat for Heroes.  The contribution is made possible through an agreement between Green Convergence and SunPower.

Mark Figearo, CEO of Green Convergence, is passionate about giving back to our local veterans.  “They put themselves on the line for our freedom. Now we can assist them,” Figearo said.

SCV residential customers leasing or purchasing a solar system through Green Convergence can indicate that they support local veterans, and wish to participate in this special Habitat for Heroes program.  The amount of each contribution is made according to the size of the solar system, with a maximum of $2,000 per system.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our residents to gain all the benefits of renewable solar power, and in doing so, trigger a sizable contribution that will go a long way toward helping our local heroes,” said Carl Goldman, owner of KHTS radio and Chairman of the SCV Habitat for Heroes Advisory Board.

Joshua Murphy, an Army veteran of the Iraq war, and his wife Windie have a new rooftop solar system on their Santa Clarita home which was recently installed through the Habitat for Heroes program. The program was launched last fall by Habitat for Humanity, San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, and the solar system was installed by Green Convergence.

“Green Convergence is pleased to partner with Habitat to help our veterans and other citizens in the SCV area,” added Figearo. “Residential customers not only benefit from SunPower’s high efficiency, high reliability solar panels, but can take pride in knowing that they contributed to Santa Clarita veterans.”

Homeowners wanting more information about installing SunPower high efficiency solar panels on their home while benefiting the Habitat for Heroes program can contact Green Convergence at 661-294-9495 or visit GC4Solar.com, or www.sunpowercorp.com/asp/habitatforhumanity.

About SCV Habitat for Heroes

SCV Habitat for Heroes is chaired by Carl Goldman and Jeri Seratti-Goldman, owners of KHTS AM 1220, and is sponsored by Southern California Gas Co. in partnership with KHTS AM-1220. Board members include a cross section of leadership in Santa Clarita.

SCV Habitat for Heroes’ three-phase program includes:

* A Brush with Kindness: Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification — Sponsored by Southern California Gas Co., this program brings together donated materials, volunteers, and resources to help veterans who need repairs or modifications on their existing homes.

* Neighborhood Revitalization — Working with partners and the City of Santa Clarita, this phase will focus on renovating foreclosed properties in redevelopment areas selected by the city for veteran families to purchase.  Veterans will work alongside volunteers and builders to rehab their home as well as take advantage of financial and other educational workshops.  Entire neighborhoods will be transformed through additional Brush with Kindness efforts.

* Veteran “Enriched” Neighborhood – In this phase, the goal is to build a veteran-specific community in the Santa Clarita Valley that includes a number of new homes, an urban garden, playground and educational services. It will offer life skills, training and support to veterans and their families to become self-sufficient. The Enriched Neighborhood model brings social and educational services right into a neighborhood.
