In the 2018 Arts Commission Work Plan and Public Art Proposal presented to the City Council on September 26, 2017, the Sidewalk Poetry Project was identified as a public art project. Out of 281 submissions, nine poems were selected.
The nine poems chosen were written by Jaclyn Bennett, Amy Hough-Dugdale, Katherine Kihiczak, Abby Kirby, Linda Ravenswood, Hailey Rutter, Valerie Swanson, Katherine Ward and Abi Wurdeman.
The stamped poems were inspired by the theme Poetry of Place, and focus on both landscapes and the built environment, reflecting shared spaces in our community.
The project includes original poems, which were stamped into cement on sidewalks throughout the City of Santa Clarita in spring 2019, as part of the Public Works department’s sidewalk rehabilitation program.
The Sidewalk Poetry Project is one of many public art projects and pieces throughout the City. For a full list of winners and their poems, along with a list of other public art pieces in the City, please visit SantaClaritaArts.com
