Sep 28, 2017: ARTree Speaker Series – COC Animation Department at The MAIN

The Animation program at the College of the Canyons is proud to be partnering with the Remember Us/Righteous Conversations Project to record and animate survivor stories from the Nazi Holocaust. As children, these men and women experienced the horrors from the worst of humanities’ collective past. Now their stories must be recorded or lost forever.

These movies have been created by the animation students in Masha Vasilkovsky’s introductory and advanced animation classes. Along with her filmmaking partner Ruah Edelstein, the students planned, recorded and then animated the stories that, along with the actual survivors themselves, form the basis of these movies.

The ARTree invites you to join the filmmakers/instructors Masha Vasilkovsky, Ruah Edelstein, Jeff Baker (Department Chair of Media Entertainment Arts) and Samara Huttman (Director of the Remember Us and The Righteous Conversations Project) to view and discuss the art and educational opportunities students and the public gain in creating these animated movies.

Sep 30, 2017: Sergi – Art Reception at Canyon Theatre Guild

Brad Sergi’s artwork, including many new pieces in variety of different styles, is on display at the Canyon Theatre Guild.

Brad has been shooting photos on and off for almost 55 years. Brad supported himself as a photographer while he worked on his degree in film. He has gone on to a successful career in the entertainment industry but has continued to shoot photographs, some of which have been turned into full wall murals for stage productions.

Sergi’s exhibit will be running through October 28th.

Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company comes for the very first time to the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons with Mexico Al Son De La Banda. Founder and Artistic Director Jose Vences, celebrating a 25-year directorial career, brings a repertory featuring work never seen or done before, showcasing Mexico’s origins of “La Banda.”

Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company, the U.S. premier folk ballet company, builds on last summer’s success by presenting another creative masterpiece. Mr. Vences, who grew up listening to the sounds of brass and percussions of bands from his home state of Morelos, has realized a dream to see his dance troupe light the stage with choreography set to the sounds of his childhood. This production will showcase Grandeza Mexicana’s extraordinary dance artwork, impressing once again with their colorful costuming and distinctive props.

Tickets for Mexico Al Son De La Banda are at $15 and $20 for local residents. For the general public, tickets are $30 and $40. All tickets are available at www3.canyons.edu or by calling the box office at (661)362-5304.
