The city of Santa Clarita will host a ribbon cutting event on Friday, Sept. 28, at 10:00 a.m., to celebrate the new addition of a 16 foot wide trail undercrossing to the San Francisquito Creek Trail, on the west side of the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge.
Those interested in attending must RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 26, at noon. The event is free and open to the public. The public is encouraged to ride or walk to the event site.
This enhancement provides a safe alternate for cyclists and pedestrians to cross Newhall Ranch Road. Opened just in time for the Santa Clarita Marathon, those who attend the ribbon-cutting will receive a special 10% off coupon for the Santa Clarita Marathon. Representatives from Bike Santa Clarita will also be at the event to answer any bike-related questions.
This project is part of the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening over San Francisquito Creek, a project that is updating the bridge by adding two more travel lanes, a raised median, barrier protected sidewalks and a bike trail. As part of cross-valley connector, this new addition widens the bridge to its ultimate width and improves traffic circulation.
The Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project is part of the Building and Creating Community theme of the City’s Santa Clarita 2020 Strategic Plan.
