[KHTS] – A Canyon Country woman was booked on an arson charge early Tuesday morning after she allegedly tried to set her neighbor’s home on fire in Santa Clarita.
Kristine Cosgrove, 53, was taken into custody after a several-hour standoff with Sheriff’s Station deputies Monday night, according to witnesses.
The standoff, which eventually prompted deputies to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, took place on the 14900 block of Daffodil Avenue in Shadow Pines.
Preliminary reports indicate the woman threw gasoline on her neighbor’s door and porch and then lit the doormat on fire before heading back to her own home across the street.
The reason for the attack was not released by Sheriff’s Station officials, but it’s believed to stem from a dispute with neighbors.
Witnesses reported the woman walking away from the scene with a gas can and fireplace lighter in her hands, before she locked herself into her home shortly after 9:15 p.m.
The confrontation ended without incident around 1:30 a.m. when Cosgrove was taken into custody, per Sheriff’s Department arrest records.
No injuries were reported and the house did not appear to sustain any significant damage, according to Fire Department officials who responded to the home around 9:19 p.m.
The fire was extinguished by the time officials arrived.
Cosgrove is due in court Thursday, and being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

If you knew the situation that this woman was in, I would hope you would reconsider you’re ignorant, hateful comment. She’s mentally ill. Although we all know her actions were horribly wrong. She needs help. Not to be “taken out and shot.” We all witnessed her downwards spiral. The police were at her home multiple times in the last two weeks. But there’s no help available for someone like her. It’s actually very sad.
Boycotting April’s business. Sheesh. Spewing hate is probably best avoided if you want to grow your business.

I lived there, grew up there and graduated Saugus High (when the cities were actually separate). I loved living there and when I see the crime stories it’s sad. We all have crime in the cities we live in, doesn’t mean we can’t comment on a city we used to live in and that many of our friends and families still live in. She’s my next door neighbor. It’s a very sad situation. The victim is a great guy. Nice family. Although the whole neighborhood is aware of her rather “apparent” mental illness. Nobody expected this. Her behavior has been mostly seen as a bit humorous. Although her behavior is “odd” she’s always been very nice to my family. Most discussion in the neighborhood about her ends with “I hope she can get help…” Her family has deserted her. She’s completely alone. It’s a shame there’s no help available for someone like her until she does something like this. I don’t think prison will serve her well.

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 30 years, and before people make judgements based on this one event, I wish they would realize that it in no way represents the neighborhood I grew up in and now raise my kids in. This is a single event, brought on by a woman who has been described by many as mentally ill, and should not give people the impression that the whole area is this way. I love raising my family here, and have always felt safe here. Sadly, random crime happens everywhere sometimes.

Yes I believe she dies suffer from mental illness she live a block from me and I have heard things from other neighbors!! She needs help!! I find it hard to believe that there are NO people like this in other communities!? EVERY city around the world has people with mental illness and or some form of drug addition!! NOT just Canyon Country!!
We do have crime but it is still a much better place than the valley. A lot of people from AV or the SFV come here and commit crimes like trolling our homes and committing break-ins. We do have home grown crime too, but still, a lot of the gang crap has moved into our town from LA, AV and the SFV in the past 15 years.
SCV is clean with no trash on the streets. Graffiti is taken down right away. A great quality of life. I might look for a town up north in a few years to retire but maybe I’ll stay SCV. It is not so bad.
We do need more small homes for baby boomers retiring and wanting to buy down. Not more low income housing!
I am very suprised that the Wussy Ass Sheriff’s in SCV really went in and got her! When i was a victom of a home invasion & had a lamp broken over my head in my sleep. All the lame ass Sheriff would do was issue a warrent for the person. Then when he was caught the Sheriff forgot to put the whitness info in the report so the D.A. had to let the crook go!
