There is so much to say about Obamacare, it would be impossible to write it all in 10 commentaries, let alone one.
Setting aside the febrile level of the whole Obamacare subject, there is one simple question: Why is Obamacare such a partisan issue?
The weak minded jump to the worn-out excuse that Republicans just don’t like Obama and don’t want anything he does to succeed.
That’s just thin.
Considering the financial prong alone, simple math evinces that the program cannot be sustainably funded by a country of some 330 million people.
“Free” does not exist. Someone, a lot of someones, have to pay.
Aside from the huge and oft-repeated lies of “You can keep your insurance, your doctor, your healthcare plan…” the public, in all political corners, ought to be insulted by the Obamacare supporters’ continuing mantra that Obamacare plans are being forced upon us because we are so stupid, we didn’t know we had bad-for-us insurance polices. Only they can deem what is the right coverage for each of us.
In the past few weeks, in an effort to quell the monumental disaster, the supporters are telling the public that the insurance policies they have had in effect for years are “bad,” subpar,” “substandard,” “junk,” “crappy” and “Swiss cheese,” to name but a few.
By the way, these same Obamacare promoters are not taking the Obamacare plans. They get to keep their gold polices, and the people they are talking to amount to the vast majority of the American public. This is the same public that has been responsible in their lives in getting, keeping and paying for their own coverage.
It is unfathomable.
Mara Liasson is a political correspondent for NPR; certainly neither is conservative. Further, Liasson was educated at the universities of Brown and Columbia, which undoubtedly cements where her mindset comes from.
In a panel discussion on Fox News Sunday last week, Liasson made the bold statement that Obamacare was meant to disrupt the entire private insurance plan industry. Her words were so matter-of-fact, they were striking. Moreover, the discussion with four or five people simply continued and no one blinked. Apparently all of the name-brand panel knew it. Clearly, that information is not being aired to the masses to any large degree.
Another prominent and prudent question that is not being asked in all of the interviews and on the talk shows, especially of Obamacare supporters, is: Did you sign up for an Obamacare plan for you and your family?
I’ll bet the deed to my house that not one will say “yes.”
A third sage question that is not being asked: If Obamacare is the panacea to the country’s healthcare, and since it is a law, then why is not every person in this country mandated into the exchanges? There should be no exceptions, including our elected representatives, the unions, etc.
The answer is clear and it is foul.
Americans need to get a sense of reality, forget their political affiliations, and take an open-eyed, open-minded look at the calamity and doom of this thing called Obamacare aka the ACA. The lack of being monumentally offended on the part of Americans, i.e., the taxpayers, in being told they are ignorant and stupid for believing they have made the right choices in the past for their families’ healthcare is astounding.
If the aforementioned questions were prominent in every discussion on Obamacare, and if answers were mandatory, Obamacare would be seen for the farce it is, and those who voted for it and push for it would meet the destiny they so deserve.
Betty Arenson has lived in the SCV since 1968 and describes herself as a conservative who’s concerned about progressives’ politics and their impacts on the country, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She says she is unashamed to own a gun or a Bible, couldn’t care less about the color of the president’s skin, and demands that he uphold his oath to protect and follow the Constitution of the United States in its entirety. Her commentary publishes Fridays.
