Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Arson and Explosives deputies checked out a suspicious item on a Valencia sidewalk Friday afternoon, found no explosive device, and determined the item was safe, according to an update from the station Friday night.
All roads were reopened by 7 p.m.

At 2:25 p.m Friday afternoon, SCV Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road/Rye Canyon Road, Valencia regarding a suspicious package on the sidewalk. We are taking the necessary precautions to ensure safety of the public. Be prepared for traffic delays in the immediate area, as we have closed several intersections as we await the arrival of the LASD Arson/Explosives unit to access the suspicious package.
Current road closures in effect on and around Rye Canyon Road include:
* W/B Newhall Ranch Road at Dickason Dr.
* E/B Newhall Ranch Road at Gateway Village
* N/B Rye Canyon at Avenue Scott
* S/B Copper Hill Dr (Rye Canyon) at Kelly Johnson Pkwy
* N/B I-5 Fwy off-ramp to E/B Newhall Ranch Road (Traffic diverted to W/B Newhall Ranch Road only)
