Thanks to a recent and generous $25,000 grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation, Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley will be able to reach out to additional homeless children and families in the local community over the next 12 months, and help them make the transition back to a stable, productive lifestyle.
Family Promise Executive Director Chris Najarro applauds the S. Mark Taper Foundation for their commitment to enhancing the quality of people’s lives by supporting the work of local nonprofits.

“Family homelessness is a complex problem that requires significant resources,” says Najarro. “We are so grateful for the partnership with the S. Mark Taper Foundation, as it will enable us to provide help and hope to some additional children and families in our community who need a hand up to regain their independence. “ The grant will also enable Family Promise to expand services as the needs of the families evolve.
Family Promise serves children and families in the SCV who might otherwise be sleeping in their cars, in a motel, or on someone’s couch. In 2013, the organization was privileged to work very closely with 33 individuals, including 19 children under the age of 18. Almost 80% of these families have moved on to apartments or transitional housing since leaving the program.
In addition to the families mentioned above, Family Promise provided supportive services such as hygiene items, clothing, and furniture to an additional 63 individuals in 2013.
Family Promise looks forward to continuing to battle the problem of homelessness with the resources provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation in 2014. Believing that every child deserves a place to call home, Family Promise aims to win that battle and change lives, one family at a time.
