In what proved to be another exciting year for The Master’s College Athletic Department, the student-athletes of TMC produced some of the most memorable moments in school history.
The Master’s College Sports Information staff recently gathered together and assembled the quintessential list of the top 10 moments in Mustang Athletics for 2014. What follows is No. 8-10.
8.) Thane Ringler finishes fantastic four-year career at The Master’s College; Cards NAIA All-American Honors.
Capping off a sparkling four-year career that established him as one of the greatest in program history, golfer Thane Ringler earned NAIA PING All-American honors for the third time in his career.
On June 19, the Hutchinson, Kansas, native was a third-team choice by the Golf Coaches Association of America after a senior season in which he posted six top-ten finishes in eight events, including second-place showings at the California State Intercollegiate Classic and the CSU San Marcos Spring Invitational, respectively.
In late April, Ringler, who earned first-team honors as a sophomore in 2012, had taken a step toward this national accolade with his selection to the NAIA PING All-West Region squad.
9.) Josh Sherfey Leads Mustang Track & Cross Country to Stellar Year
It was a banner year for freshman standout Joshua Sherfey. In the spring, the Valencia native made program history by becoming the first freshman male track athlete at The Master’s College to earn NAIA All-American honors.
Sherfey competed in the 5000m final and finished the event with a sixth-place finish in a time of 14 minutes and 57.55 seconds. Notably, Sherfey was the only Mustang to earn All-American honors for track in the 2014 season.
But, Sherfey didn’t stop there as he went on to earn All-GSAC honors in cross country after placing sixth overall in the conference championship race on November 8.
10.) Bekendam Digs NAIA-All American Honors
After The Master’s College volleyball team finished its 2014 season with a 19-12 record while finishing fourth overall in the GSAC at 9-7, setter Aubrey Bekendam (Orland, CA) became a first-time recipient of NAIA All-American honorable mention accolades. This past season, Bekendam paced the Lady Mustangs with 909 assists, chipped in 285 digs, and had 175 kills. In addition, these marks led to All-GSAC honors for the junior.
Bekendam’s accomplishments add to her list of national postseason awards as she was named the AVCA NAIA Freshman of the Year at the end of the 2012 season.
