Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has recently received numerous reports of catalytic converters being stolen from vehicles.
The vast majority of the reports have involved thefts from Toyota Sequoia SUV. This particular vehicle has a higher ground clearance than most vehicles, allowing easy access to the catalytic converters.
Additionally, the Toyota Sequoia is equipped with two catalytic converters, which is more beneficial to a thief. Detectives are investigating these thefts and would like to urge the community to be vigilant.
The Crime Prevention Unit recommends parking your vehicle in garages and carports, if available. Be aware of people around or underneath vehicles, and call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station immediately if you feel the activity is suspicious.
Pay attention to any unusual noises when the vehicle is running, as a vehicle will run in the absence of the catalytic converter.
If you suspect your catalytic converter has been stolen, have your vehicle checked out as soon as possible. If you have been a victim of this type of theft, please contact the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station to make a report.
Anyone who may have witnessed any other incidents relating to such thefts, or if you have any further information, please contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station at 661-255-1121.
