LANCASTER – The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (9-3) rolled on Saturday evening, defeating the Eagles of Northern New Mexico College (1-12), 101-49, in intercollegiate NAIA women’s basketball action inside the Pioneer Event Center (PEC) in Lancaster.
The contest was all-UAV, with the Pioneers outscoring the Eagles by double-digits in each quarter but the second en route to picking up their ninth victory of the season, 101-49.
Junior forward Tylen Price (Lancaster, CA) led all scorers in the game with 19 points and also added four assists, two rebounds and one block, senior guard Samantha Earl (Clovis, CA) added 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists, and junior guard Kaylyn James (Long Beach, CA) chipped in with 16 points, shooting 5-of-9 from three-point range.
Senior guard Daizah Pounds (Richmond, CA) poured in 11 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal, senior guard Alyssa Gonzales (Bakersfield, CA) scored nine points and added a game-high six assists, and sophomore forward Alexia Budd (Los Angeles, CA) contributed seven points and grabbed a game-high eight boards.
UAV hit 37-of-76 field goals (.487), 18-of-46 three-pointers (.391), 9-of-17 free throws (.529), and outrebounded the Eagles, 40-25. UAV committed 13 turnovers and stole the ball 16 times. NNMC made 16-of-44 shots (.364), 2-of-13 three-pointers (.154) and 15-of-20 free throws (.750) and committed 26 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV five times.
