Highs near 107 are expected across the Santa Clarita Valley this afternoon, with an excessive heat warning in effect today from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday should see highs of 106 with winds of 5-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph blowing out of the southwest.
The National Weather Service pegs Monday’s high for the SCV at 100, with temperatures falling into the low to mid-90s throughout the week.
Monsoonal moisture continues to stream across the area with a possibility of afternoon thunderstorms in the Antelope Valley and mountain regions.
The Antelope Valley and coastal regions are ripe for “dry lightning” – lightning produced in thunderstorms where the rain evaporates before it hits the ground – which increases the risk of fires.
Locally, the SCV Senior Center is a county-designated cooling station. Hours of operation are today from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..
