Hundreds of people will dive into Castaic Lake’s chilly waters on March 2 to raise funds for local Special Olympics athletes. The Castaic Lions Club will provides a pancake breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. with registration. The Plunge will take place at 10 a.m. sharp.
“Our ocean and lakes have frigid March waters so brave souls can cross this off their bucket list and raise money for Special Olympics at the same time,” said Bill Shumard, President & CEO of Special Olympics Southern California.

Companies, school groups, community groups, law enforcement, and supporters of all kinds will walk, run, or “creatively enter” the sub-50-degree waters to benefit Special Olympics Southern California. Even people “Too Chicken to Plunge” have the opportunity to participate in this exhilarating fundraiser and raise funds to stay OUT of the water.
The plunge will take place at Castaic Lower Lake. Each Plunger or Chicken will raise a minimum of $50 to participate with additional incentives for funds raised. People are encouraged to sport their favorite costume whether they come alone or plunge with friends.
“The best costumes may be rewarded and crowds of people will cheer on all participants whether they are braving the waters in a Wonder Woman costume or just a swimsuit,” said Shumard.
“Taking the Plunge is a unique way for individuals, groups, and corporations to support our athletes,” added Shumard.
