The College of the Canyons Studio Jazz Ensemble and Lab Band is supplying a healthy dose of seasonal cheer at this year’s Holiday Jazz Concert, where audience members will be treated to a mix of traditional holiday tunes performed in a variety of styles.
This year’s festivities will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) at College of the Canyons.
The lineup includes popular classics such as “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “Frosty the Snowman” plus many more.
The groups will perform under the direction of COC music director KC Manji, and be accompanied by guest vocalist Katherine Lench-Meyering.
“This annual concert is a fantastic event because it’s held early in December and gets people in the holiday spirit,” said Manji. “It also provides our students with an opportunity to improve their skills in music performance, so it’s really a great accomplishment.”
While the theme of this year’s concert is in line with traditional holiday pomp and circumstance, the event will be shaped by the sounds of bossa nova, swing, rock and more.
A multitude of the compositions are student works, as a premier goal of the COC Studio Jazz Ensemble and Lab Band is to prepare young musicians for professional opportunities.
