The WiSH Education Foundation is thrilled to announce designation by five local corporate entities as a grant recipient. A $10,000 grant from the Boston Scientific Foundation, which was founded by Boston Scientific, a global medical device company, was approved for a Hart District computer lab upgrade for STEM Learning. In addition, Walmart has approved three individual grants for a total of $3,500 for career tech education – namely video production equipment – and Union Bank has awarded $1,000 for upgraded technology.
Educators in the district send “WiSHlists” of current need; in turn, WiSH’s grantwriters search for appropriate grants to match those needs. One of the recent requests made was for upgraded computers for an AP Computer Science lab at Hart High School. The grant awarded by the Boston Scientific Foundation, that supports health and education initiatives in the Valencia area and four other markets, will focus on STEM learning. There are approximately 270 students across several disciplines who regularly use the lab so this upgrade will have a very big impact! There were several requests made for video technology funding throughout the district and so far, four of the grants have come through, thanks to Walmart and Union Bank. WiSH will work with district technology services to fund the new equipment immediately.
It is the goal of the WiSH Education Foundation to replace program funding lost to budget cuts since 2008. This academic year, in addition to general funding, WiSH is focused on career technical education and helping students identify and make strides toward career goals.
